USAID freeze endangers health systems globally

The Trump administration’s recent freeze on USAID funding is a direct assault on the health and dignity of marginalized communities worldwide.
The Trump administration’s recent freeze on USAID funding is more than a political maneuver—it’s a direct assault on the health and dignity of marginalized communities worldwide. Influenced by Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency, this suspension of all USAID will see millions of people around the world experience disruption of access to essential services including health services, food, and protection. At Health Poverty Action USA, we stand in solidarity with these communities, witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of such decisions.
The recent suspension of USAID funding has forced Health Poverty Action to halt – amongst other vital projects – our critical HIV program aimed at improving equitable access to services for over 3,000 San people in Namibia. This program was set to prioritize vulnerable groups, including adolescent girls and young women, orphaned and vulnerable children, and pregnant women who are HIV positive or at risk of infection.
But this is just part of the bigger global humanitarian crisis that undermines decades of progress in global health. These policy decisions will increase pressure on already fragile healthcare systems, exacerbating injustices and deepening health disparities.
This moment demands more than outrage. It demands real, practical solidarity. Make a solidarity donation to HPA USA to ensure frontline health programs like this can continue to exist, ensuring people have access to essential health services.
